Davenport Iowa is getting a makeover! It looks like a new Paul Mitchell Partner School will be coming to Davenport, Iowa this September:
About a year after the sale of the former Ron Buysse Dodge car dealership at 4114 Brady St., Davenport, was announced, the new owners have begun interior construction work on the existing building that soon will serve as a cosmetology school.
Daron and Judy Gregory will own and operate the Davenport Academy - a Paul Mitchell Partner School.
"We have started construction. We broke ground last week and Sept. 15 is scheduled to be the first day of class," Daron Gregory said. "We have 130 students on our list. Now is the time to contact all the students and start enrolling them."
The couple currently operates two Paul Mitchell-focused hair salons in Las Vegas. But Gregory said they will sell those salons, move to Davenport and devote themselves full time to the school.
Gregory said they have been affiliated with Paul Mitchell for 25 years, just about as long as Paul Mitchell salons and products have been in existence. He said about seven years ago, the salon chain began opening schools for cosmetology, skin and nail care.
The economic downturn did contribute to the delay in the start of construction. "The banks stopped lending money," Gregory said.
The couple purchased the Buysse building for $1.1 million, he said. Gutting and renovating the interior is expected to cost another $1 million. Along with about $300,000 in equipment, Gregory said the total project will end up being somewhere near $2.5 million.
The building will contain several classrooms and a large clinic floor where students will be trained by providing services to customers.
Each student must complete 2,100 hours of class in 15 months. Gregory said he hopes to add night classes.

I think all Paul Mitchell Schools are great. I attended The Ohio Academy a few years ago and couldn't be more pleased with my outcome, and my job. Every time I hear the Paul Mitchell name I am so thankful for the job I have in this ever changing economy. I would like to remind everyone who is thinking about attending cosmetology school that it is a very rewarding field.
