Valley Tech hosts Day of Beauty event for Abby's House

Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School students hosted a Day of Beauty in the school's salon recently, offering free services including haircuts, facials, manicures and scalp treatments to some women who were in need of pampering.
The two-day event accommodated nearly 60 women serviced by Abby's House, a multi-service, nonprofit organization located in Worcester that works with homeless and battered women and children.

The Day of Beauty was a collaborative effort among many Valley Tech students and staff. The SkillsUSA Community Service Team at the school coordinated the event as part of its community service project entitled Respect Y.E.S! (Yourself, Environment, Society).
Team members include juniors Beth Belanger from Northbridge, Mollie Letendre of Hopedale and Melissa Burdick of Northbridge. The team's project echoes the school's mission to provide an environment of mutual respect for everyone at Valley Tech and the community.
Cosmetology students under the leadership of Cynthia Collard administered all free services to the women. Student council members provided refreshments to women attending the event.
