Kentucky Cosmetology Licensing Requirements
In order to obtain a license in Cosmetology, Esthetics or Nail Technology in the state of Kentucky, individuals must complete the requirements listed below. Other requirements may apply.
Cosmetologist: 1800 hours
Esthetician: 1000 hours
Nail Technician: 600 hours

Continuing Education Requirements:
Renewal of certain licenses will require proof that continuing education requirements have been met. Cosmetologists, Nail Technicians and Estheticians must complete six (6) hours every year. No continuing education is required for Apprentice Cosmetologists.
Reciprocity:
Individuals from states other than Kentucky who hold a valid cosmetologist or esthetician license, and can show proof of two (2) years current experience may go before the state board for the practical examination. Individuals will be required to pay the out-of-state examination and license fees.
