Maine Cosmetology Licensing Requirements
In order to obtain a license in Cosmetology, Nail Technology, Esthetics or Barbering in the state of Maine, individuals must complete the requirements listed below. Other requirements may apply.
Cosmetology: 1500 hours
Barber: 1500 hours
Esthetician: 600 hours
Manicurist: 200 hours
Licensing Fee Schedule: (Fees subject to change)
(Background check for all applicants is $15)
Cosmetology License Fee: $40
Barber License Fee: $40
Esthetician License Fee: $40
Manicurist License Fee: $40
Continuing Education Requirements:
Continuing Education applies to Instructors only.
Reciprocity:
The board shall waive the examination and grant a license to any individual who presents proof of authorization to practice from another state or jurisdiction of the United States, or another country that maintains professional standards perceived by the board to be equal to, or higher, than those set forth in Maine.
