Remington College Cosmetology Students Walk Out

Cosmetology students at Lafayette's Remington College walked out of class Thursday to protest what they call tough standards.

The new rules are being enforced by their new director, an employee school officials are standing behind.

Several students stormed out in protest of their new director because they say her policy enforcement is too rigid.

"We're like 5 seconds late, we get written up, we get in trouble, we have to do stupid stuff like mannequin duty" said student Audreamya Thomas.

"If you have a sick child, somebody missed the bus, a wreck, no matter the case if you're seconds late, you get written up." said student Candice Landry

Students told us they're so upset they're considering driving all the way to the Baton Rouge campus to finish their courses.

Remington backed up its policy in a statement to TV10. The policy says if a student is late, they must report to mannequin duty, as not to interrupt the class in session.

Students also complained about not being able to wear coats when the room is too cold. The school says students must be in uniform at all times, and that if broad agreement says it's too cold, the temperature of the classroom, not the dress code, should be adjusted.

The students say they've addressed the issue with college officials. But the school president says she was unaware of the situation. The expression of the students tells a different story.

The cosmetology students say the new director started three weeks ago.
